Problem
When starting the 4RE system, the DVR powers up; however the display panel has no power, no display, LEDs or backlit buttons. Also, the DVR will not power down once the ignition is turned off. The only way to turn off the DVR is to remove the fuse or disconnect the power plug on the rear of the DVR.
Symptom(s)
- Display has no power
- Display is blank
- Control buttons have no back-lighting
Solution
Summary
- Check the cable connection from the DVR to the Display
- Also check the cable connections to the individual cameras in the system
Details
- Check the Display connection
- Make sure the connection on the back of the DVR marked 'Display' is properly inserted and screwed down
- Unscrew the connector
- Disconnect the cable
- Reconnect the cable
- Tighten the screw (not too tight)
- Make sure the connection into the back of the Display is properly inserted
- Using a 1/16-inch hex-head tool, remove the display from the bracket
- With the same tool, remove the plate from the back of the display
- Disconnect and reconnect the cable in the display
- Restart the system to see if the Display works
- If the Display now works
- Reassemble the plate and bracket
- Make sure the connection on the back of the DVR marked 'Display' is properly inserted and screwed down
- Try a different Display
- If the Display still doesn't work, try to connect a known good working Display from another 4RE system
- If the known good working Display does not work
- Try a new or known good working Display cable
- Try the non-working Display in a working system
- Connect the initial, non-working, Display to the 4RE system that the working Display came from
- If the non-working Display now works in the other system, the issue is not the Display unit
- Check the Camera connections
- Using the same methods as above, check the cable connections to the cameras in the vehicle
