Problem
The 4RE system begins recording with no obvious triggers from the officer.
Solution
Summary
- Check the configured triggers for GPS speed and the Crash sensor
- Check the connection of the individual Trigger wires
Details
- GPS Speed
- The system may be misinterpreting information from the GPS antenna or chip
- Make sure the GPS antenna (small and square) has direct line-of-site to the sky
- Best placement is outside the vehicle
- Also check the configuration setting for GPS trigger
- If it's set to a speed that is within normal driving parameters (50mph), it may trigger a recording very often
- If the antenna is placed correctly, and the trigger speed is appropriate
- Replace the GPS antenna, or
- Replace the 4RE DVR
- Crash Sensor
- On the Display unit, press Menu > Settings > Crash
- The default setting for this sensitivity is 8
- If it's typical for this vehicle to drive on gravel roads or on uneven surfaces, this may be too low
- Set it higher and test drive to see if it triggers a recording
