Intended For: Customer
Difficulty: Easy
Estimated Time to Complete: 5 minutes
Applies to Software/Firmware Version(s): ELX any version
Problem
Evidence Library Express will not import event video from a USB flash drive removed from a 4RE DVR.
Symptom(s)
- ELX does not recognize that there is a USB flash drive attached with event video
- Browsing to the USB flash drive using Windows Explorer (or File Explorer) may show files or folders with obviously wrong names
Solution
It's likely that the USB flash drive has become corrupted. This can happen when a USB flash drive has been in use for a long time, or, more likely, if it has been removed from a 4RE DVR or from a computer without safely ejecting it, first. Simply obtain a new USB flash drive from WatchGuard by calling Customer Support, or by simply purchasing one at a store.
USB Flash Drive Specifications
- Recommended flash drive capacity is either 16GB or 32GB
- Larger capacity flash drives will work, but Windows will not natively format them as FAT32
- Formatted as FAT32
- USB flash drives with a capacity of 16GB or 32GB are likely already formatted as FAT32
- Check the packaging for any indication of how it's formatted
- When inserted into a 4RE DVR and the system reports that it cannot use or recognize the flash drive, use a computer to format it as FAT32
- The flash drive can physically fit into the USB Carrier Assembly
Notes
- No video evidence has been lost. The files are still on the 4RE DVR and can still be retrieved
- Simply insert a new USB flash drive and give the 4RE system time to transfer the data to it
- Always follow the proper steps to safely remove a USB flash drive from a 4RE DVR or computer
