Introduction
A wireless access point is used to facilitate the uploading of event video from the 4RE systems in vehicles to the Evidence Library server.
Procedure
Take note of the following points when installing an access point (AP):
- Mounting the AP:
- Install the AP with 'Line of Sight' to the vehicle antennas
- This means the AP should not have any physical obstructions to the vehicle antennas
- Mount the AP 15-21 ft high
- This lets the AP have the best angle to vehicle antennas
- Use the proper mounting hardware when mounting on the side of a building (depending on the type of building material - e.g. brick, cinder block, steel)
- Properly orient the AP
- Omni antennas need to have the antenna vertical with the Antenna on top
- Sector antennas need to have the flat portion facing the vehicles
- Install the AP with 'Line of Sight' to the vehicle antennas
- Running cable for the AP:
- Be sure to use Ethernet CAT5E or CAT6 cabling with the AP
- If mounting the AP outside, use 'external grade' cable or conduit, so the cable does not deteriorate
- Do not run the Ethernet cable more than 320 ft (100 meters) between the PoE adapter and AP
- WatchGuard recommends grounding the Ethernet cable with a grounding box (provided with purchase)
- This will protect the server and other equipment from a lightning strike.
- Include a drip loop in the cable run
- Be sure to use Ethernet CAT5E or CAT6 cabling with the AP
